Your information
Privacy, in plain language.
We use the minimum information needed to confirm support, run community petitions and keep the process trustworthy.
What we collect
When you support a petition, we collect your name, email address, an optional statement and your choice about whether your name may appear publicly. We also keep the confirmation and submission times needed to operate the petition.
How we use it
Your email is used to send the confirmation link and essential messages about your signature. It is not displayed publicly. A name is displayed with a statement only when the signer has chosen that option. Confirmed signature totals and consent-safe statements may appear publicly.
Anonymous site analytics
We use PostHog to understand anonymous page visits and named actions such as reading, sharing, starting or confirming a petition. A first-party anonymous browser identifier and campaign tags may connect those steps into a conversion journey. We do not send names, email addresses, statements, form-field values or survey answers to PostHog. We respect browser Do Not Track settings and do not record browsing sessions. Signed confirmation and survey-link tokens are removed from analytics URLs. Our email provider reports operational delivery events; open and click signals are recorded only if that tracking is enabled and are approximate.
Anonymous petition surveys
After you confirm a petition signature, we may invite you to answer a short survey. A single-use invitation checks that an eligible signer may respond and records only whether the survey was started or completed. If it remains incomplete, we may send the survey reminders configured for that petition after confirmation. Survey progress is saved anonymously as you answer so useful partial answers are not lost. Your private survey link can reopen saved progress and, after final submission, show a read-only receipt. The private access key is stored separately from the answers. Partial and completed answers remain separate from petition signatures and contain no name, email address, signature identifier, IP address, browser details or precise submission time. Anonymous answers may be analysed and shared in aggregate to support the petition.
New-petition alerts
If you separately join the petition-alert list, we store your email address and confirmation status only. That address stays private and is used only to tell you when a new community petition opens.
Services that help us operate
We use carefully selected service providers for hosting, email delivery, privacy-conscious analytics and media storage. They process information only as needed to provide those services. We do not sell personal information.
Retention and choices
We retain petition records while they are needed for the petition, accountability and reasonable operational records. You can ask us to correct or remove your information by emailing mail@muizenberg.africa. We may need to verify the request before acting.
Security and future changes
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no internet service can promise perfect security. If a future feature needs more sensitive evidence, it will require its own clear purpose, consent, access and retention rules before launch.
